Pitchfork

This picture shows the six most popular genres of the Pitchfork album reviews during the period 2010- 2016: Experimental (green), Electronic(blue), Pop/R&B (orange), Rap (yellow) and Rock (wine).

The picture uses a “streamgraph” approach. The most popular genre over this time period was Rock, followed by Electronic. Each stream contains a set of concentric circles with dots, which represent albums sorted by their review score. For each circle cluster, there are 3 rings. The innermost circle consists of albums with low rating, the middle circle consists of albums scoring between 2 and 9, and the outermost circle consists of highly rated albums with scores more than 9.

Note that one can see outliers, where albums that were rated very low (less than 2) and albums that were rated very high (more than 9).
